Why Tobii Dynavox Became a Founding Member
Over the past several years, we have been aiding our core communities (cerebral palsy, ALS, Rett Syndrome) with the ability to not only communicate, but also the ability to access the Web, obtain and maintain employment, attend school, and communicate with friends and family on Facebook, email, Skype and even short message service (SMS). More recently, we have seen the demand for our tools become more prevalent for those who may not have a communication impairment but still need a robust, accurate and fast device to access a computer, such as those with arthritis, severe carpal tunnel, repetitive strain injury or spinal cord injury. Eye tracking provides the accurate selection, intuitive navigation and speed of access that these users are looking for. We became a founding member of IAAP to further push the boundaries of what accessibility can do for those with disabilities, the independence it can bring to them and the empowerment they are given when accessibility is made a priority by those developing goods and services that benefit everyone.
Tobii Dynavox's Goals for IAAP
- To aid in the development of core accessibility standards and implement such standards to be a universal set of guidelines for all organizations, whether they belong to the IAAP or not.
- To educate those about the potential of eye tracking as a computer access tool, permitting them the freedom to go to school or get back to work without having to wait for website accessibility standards to improve.
