United in Accessibility

IAAP Mission

The mission of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP), a division of the Global Initiative for Inclusive ICT’s (G3ict), is to define, promote, improve, and diversify the accessibility profession globally through certification, education, and networking in order to enable the creation of accessible products, content, services, and environments.

Vision of Universal Design

Implementing Universal Design principles takes everybody into account and leads to fully inclusive and sustainable digital and built environments.

History Overview

The International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) is a not-for-profit membership-based organization for individuals and organizations that are focused on accessibility or are in the process of building their accessibility skills and strategies. The objective is to help accessibility professionals develop and advance their careers and to support organizations integrate accessibility into their services, products and infrastructure. The IAAP members are United in Accessibility.
In 2016, IAAP became a Division of the Global Initiative for Inclusive ICTs (G3ict).  G3ict is an advocacy initiative launched in December 2006 by the United Nations Global Alliance for ICT and Development, in cooperation with the Secretariat for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities under UN DESA. G3ict relies on an international network of ICT accessibility experts to develop and promote good practices, technical resources and benchmarks for ICT accessibility advocates around the world.  G3ict is incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the State of Georgia, USA, and headquartered in Atlanta.

In 2019,  Global Alliance on Accessible Technologies and Environments (GAATES) transferred its programming to G3ict to scale initiatives for greater global impact. GAATES was the leading international organization dedicated to promoting Accessibility and Universal Design for the built environment and public spaces as per the dispositions of the United Nations CRPD. Specifically, the built environment certification program and online learning course “Design of Public Spaces” came under management of the IAAP team.
